The Sprig + Fern Tawa is locally owned and operated. A community-based tavern seeking a Chef de Partie to join the team.



The role

Sprig & Fern Tawa is on the hunt for a talented Chef de Partie to join our kitchen crew. We're a vibrant, community-focused venue serving up local craft beer and seasonal fare — and we're looking for someone who shares our passion for quality, consistency, and great hospitality.

What You'll Be Doing


As Chef de Partie, you'll take charge of your section and help deliver consistently delicious dishes that showcase local and seasonal ingredients. You'll:

  • Run your section with confidence — from prep to service to clean-down

  • Cook and plate dishes to a high standard, every time

  • Collaborate closely with our Sous Chefs to keep service smooth and standards high

  • Support and mentor junior team members in a positive, inclusive way

  • Contribute ideas to menus and specials

  • Help manage stock and food costs

  • Maintain excellent food safety and hygiene practices


What We're Looking For

You'll be a key part of our kitchen team, so we're after someone who brings skill, energy, and a great attitude. Ideally, you'll have:

  • Previous experience in a similar role

  • A calm, positive approach under pressure

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • The ability to work independently and take initiative

  • A genuine interest in food trends and seasonal cooking


Our venue is open daily for lunch, dinner, and functions — so flexibility across a 7-day roster (including weekends) is essential. Applicants must currently reside in New Zealand and hold NZ residency, as we are not yet accredited for visa sponsorship.
