Want to see what lifeguarding is all about?


Forget your preconceptions of what a lifeguard looks like - you just need to be a confident swimmer, who is great with people and we'll train you! We're looking for people at all stages of life to join our team. We currently have permanent full-time vacancies at Karori and Tawa pools.


Working as a Lifeguard for Wellington Pools means you'll benefit from being part of an organisation that grows its people. In lifeguarding, there is a variety of courses and development opportunities for you to advance your career.


You will gain at a minimum the following qualifications:


First Aid Level 2 Certificate

Pool Life Saving Practicing Certificate (PLPC)

If you have what it takes to be a lifeguard and want to make a difference in your community - then come and work with our team at Wellington Pools. We are a diverse group of fun and motivated people. Our Lifeguards care for all our pools across Wellington these include Freyberg, Karori, Keith Spry, Tawa, Wellington Aquatic, and during the summer months Khandallah and Thorndon.


The pools across Wellington provide a vital service to our city - and as a lifeguard, you'll play a key role in helping people get the most out of their recreational facilities, and have a safe, enjoyable experience. You'll work in a stimulating environment and have plenty of development opportunities within Wellington City Council. We have a rostered system which does include some weekends. 


This is a super supportive environment where we will ensure that you are well looked after and never thrown in the deep end (excuse the pun!).  No experience is necessary as we will provide all training and support to get you up to speed AND we will pay you as you train!


We pay $27.80 per hour for part-time Lifeguards, and $59,547 per annum for full-time Lifeguards. We have a rotating roster system which includes some weekends.
