Role Overview: Workroom Supervisor (Working Manager)

Creative Curtains Tawa Ltd is seeking a skilled, hands-on Workroom Supervisor to lead our tight-knit team of production staff. This is a true "working supervisor" role: you will balance workflow management with active production, stepping onto the floor to operate industrial machinery alongside your team. Your primary objective is to maintain our lead times while upholding our reputation for premium, hand-finished custom drapery.

This role focuses entirely on technical execution and production flow—there are no fabric ordering or client quoting responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Workflow & Lead-Time Management: Oversee the daily production pipeline to guarantee all custom drapery orders are completed within our 6-week turnaround window.

• Hands-On Production: Lead from the front by actively cutting, preparing, and operating industrial machinery to support the team during peak times or staff absences.

• Team Leadership: Supervise, support, and coordinate a small team of 3–5 machinists and cutters, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and efficient output.

• Machinery Care & Maintenance: Monitor and perform basic upkeep on the workroom's industrial machinery (e.g., oiling, cleaning lint build-up, and changing needles on pleating machines, flat sewers, overlockers, and blind-stitchers) to prevent downtime.

• Health & Safety Leadership: Actively maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free workroom environment in line with New Zealand WorkSafe practices. Ensure the team uses equipment safely, manages heavy fabric rolls correctly, and keeps cutting tracks and walkways clear.

What We Are Looking For

• Industrial Sewing Mastery: Extensive experience manufacturing custom drapery by hand using industrial sewing machinery.

• Mechanical Aptitude: Confidence in troubleshooting minor industrial machine tension or mechanical issues before escalating to external technicians.

• Natural Organiser: Proven ability to manage timelines, schedule tasks, and keep a production line moving efficiently.

• Safety Conscious: A proactive approach to workshop safety, ensuring team habits align with a hazard-free workplace.

• Collaborative Leader: A supportive team player who is eager to work "in the trenches" rather than manage from a desk.
