About the role
As a new cafe located within the Bucket Tree lodge, we serve a dual audience: motel guests requiring reliable, quick breakfasts, and Tawa locals looking for quality brunch and cabinet food. We are looking for an experienced Cafe Chef to run the kitchen.
Key Responsibilities:
Service Execution: Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes and cafe standards. Ensure all food is prepared efficiently during busy service periods.
Quality Control: Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation to ensure every dish leaving the pass meets our high standards.
Hygiene & Safety: Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment at all times. Strictly follow Food Control Plan (FCP) guidelines, food safety, hygiene, and workplace health regulations.
Stock Management: Manage stock levels, rotate ingredients (FIFO), and minimise food waste through smart ordering and prep.
Menu & Baking: Assist with menu development and daily specials when required. utilise baking techniques to create high-quality cabinet food (scones, muffins, slices).
Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with Front-of-House staff to ensure smooth service and open communication regarding wait times or menu changes.
What we're looking for
At least two years' proven experience as a Cafe Chef or in a similar culinary role
Formal culinary training or qualifications in hospitality/culinary arts
Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and presentation
Excellent time management and multitasking abilities
A keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards
A passion for creating delicious, high-quality food
