Experienced Small Engine Mechanic

Tawa Mowers & Heating Services has been a proud part of the Tawa community for over 30 years.

We are looking for a reliable, experienced small engine mechanic to join our small but busy team here in Tawa.  Experience and knowledge of 2-stroke engines is essential for this role.

Job Overview

• Position Title: Small Engine Mechanic

• Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

• Location: Tawa, Wellington (Workshop-based)

• Compensation: Negotiable based on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot, service, and repair 2-stroke and 4-stroke outdoor power equipment, including lawn mowers, chainsaws, trimmers, and ride-on mowers.

• Maintenance: Perform routine tune-ups, replace spark plugs, test electrical and fuel systems, and sharpen blades.

• Parts Management: Order replacement components, maintain inventory records, and log all service work accurately.

• Customer Service: Discuss equipment faults, explain repair estimates, and advise clients on safe machinery operation.

• Safety Compliance: Maintain a clean, hazard-free workshop and follow all workplace health and safety protocols.

Job Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in small engine repair or a related trade.

• Skills: Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic ability, computer literacy for service software, and effective communication skills.

• License: Current driver’s license.

• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 25–50 kg and perform physical tasks including bending, lifting, and standing for long periods.
